Eureka Seven Review

Eureka Seven screen shot Eureka Seven is an anime series set in the future, about a 14 year old boy named Renton, (shown left) who at first has a life that "totally sucks" in his opinion. His only dream is being able to "lift". In this series, people ride airwaves on these futuristic hoverboards, and they call this sport "lifting". It's actually a pretty cool concept.

Anyway, Renton's life takes a turn for the better when a Mecha (called, the Nirvosh) crashes into his house, who is piloted by this mysterious girl named Eureka.

Eureka turns out to be a member of a mercenary group fighting in an anti-government movement. Eventually, Renton joins the group, and falls in love with this girl Eureka. But little does he know that Eureka is a mother, with three children.

This series has a pretty interesting cast of characters on the ships crew as well, and at first this series seemed like a warm, possibly even humor-based anime but the more you watch it you see that the characters kind of change, they begin to slowly reveal that they have a lot of deep rooted emotions of death, killing, and war from their past. Which is good, it kept me tuned in.

My only gripe (and yes, believe it or not, I have one) is that Renton is a total loser. He has a crush on Eureka for the longest time, but he's so shy about it, it's ridiculous. It gets to the point where the other crew members even start saying to him "just let it out dude", "just let her know", I mean, I was personally even wishing that he'd "let her know" as well, that blushing and sweaty palms stuff gets old pretty quick.

But all in all, it was an okay series. Not too funny, but had some nice elements and good battle sequences.

Please read my review till end with patience.
Let me say one thing. I think that this anime is one of the greatest masterpiece of Bones and Bandai. I personally can't wait to see the season 2 of the anime.

Beleive it or not, the thing that I liked throughout the series was Renton's personality. Though there are lot of critisism about him here, I started to watch the anime because of him. His is, you can say, a balanced personality. He never gives up, nor he does crazy things to impress Eureka. But he tries to win her over by being her sheild and with the skill he has. Neither he is a Genius nor a genuine idiot. Many may think that this is the weakest personality for 'main character' but, this is what made Eureka change his mind about him. He gave out an impression that Eureka could trust him about protecting her. You can see in the 50th episode, when he meets Eureka in command cluster, He says "Don't you bye-bye me!". I think this made Eureka regret her thought about Renton.
He always tried his best to keep his promise about protecting her and that's what changed Eureka from being a Coralian to a human. He loved Eureka so much that it hurts to bid them good-bye. That is the reason why there needs to be a season 2. We want to see how Eureka and Renton will get along in future. Although they were alive in distant place, they couldn't spend their entire life there now; can they? They will have to return to their home. How will the new 'home' welcome them? The hero's son who surpassed his father. The first Human and Coralian couple and their already adopted children? How will they face the future? That's what everybody here wants to know.
Some may say that the whole story has already told and it couldn't be continued. But I don't beleive that. There are still many possible roads for this anime. In fact, I have thought about it. Its not that difficult to continue this anime once you see it for yourself. As a fan of this anime I demand that we get a season-2. Instead creating new anime, revive the old one. Because personally, I like to watch a revived anime more than a new one. If they wan't a story for second season, I can give them. I personally guarantee that it will good. Because as a fan, I know what we all want.
Thank You

I'm still undecided about this series. Part of me screams "its absolute rubbish!" whilst the otehr part was compelled to carry on watching.
Firstly, Renton Thurston is without a doubt the most pathetic main character of any anime. I lost count of the number of times he screwed up, did the wrong thing, said the wrong thing, he spent 90% of the anime crying and sat with his head buried between his knees. I've notived that others have said he becomes a man by the end of the series......When exactly?! He was still pathetic; without Holland, he would have just carried on crying, saying the same old " I couldnt do anything" line.
The storyline was poor, it felt like the writers were struggling to tie ideas together coherently. Dewey's reasons don't wash with me whatsoever.
Positives were Eureka's developement as a character, well done and positive. Dominic was my pick of the show.
Its a strange one...I would recommend it, only so that people can make up their own minds; as i've said, i'm still undecided.

Hello
I just wanted to give you guys my opinion. All the comments you have given are all true, but lets face it. It is impossible to give a review which can do the anime justice. There are so many themes and so many feelings in it. It is something that needs to bee watched not read before it can be understood.

That said, i can't help myself but to say this:
Nether is think it is supposed to be funny at the beginning. Renton is young and does not understand the world he lives in that well. Later when Renton starts to grow older. He sees that things are not the way that his childish mind thinks they are. He starts to understand what the gekkostate really is, he begins to understand why people are the way they are. Renton grows up and becomes a man in the end.

Still you must understand that i meant what I said in the start. There are just way too many feelings and themes to talk about. You guys really have to see it for yourself. I also think that if you would start to analyze the story scene by scene it would destroy some of the magic attached to it.

I guess what i am trying to say is that i fell for this anime by episode 13 i was so hooked that i saw the rest of it non stop. So if anyone needs something to do in their summer vacation then Eureka Seven is my recommendation for you!

Eureka seven is such an awesome series! i think they call it "reffing" btw, and it's Nirvash not Nirvosh...not meaning to sound rude or anything
Dude, it's completely understandable why renton gets all shy and can't tell her! i think he's cool!
I agree with Nether, it's meant to be "touchy", although it does have it's comedy, i laughed so hard when eureka and renton jumped on holland's face!

The thing about Eureka being a mother messed up the intro bit. It should have been ' But little does he know whats going on in the world ' or something like that

And yeah, Renton was a total idiot in the series not telling Eureka. I was so relieved at the episode at the end of season 2 where Eureka went out to look for Renton on gidgets board and they had the fight with the military and Ray and Charles. And DAMN, after that the idiot Renton doesn't even manage to kiss her until the last episode

This anime is not supposed to be "funny". It is supposed to be "touchy". The story runs around war, religion and different types of love. If you expect to watch a One Piece style anime, you will be disappointed. This anime is very "bones" studio style, and according to both fans and critics, it´s one of the best animes created in the last decade. Besides the sometimes too cheesy love stuff, this anime is at par with FMA.
